Governors
Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Being a school governor is an important role. They are responsible for working closely with the headteacher and senior leadership team to ensure that the school is statutorily compliant, that it offers good value for money and that the care and safety of all staff and children is of the highest priority.
We meet together three times a year for full governing body meetings (FGB) and three times a year for committee meetings. The governors also come into school to meet with teachers, leaders and children.
Their remit can be summarised into three key areas: Check, Support and Challenge.
Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
We have also provided a Register of Governor Interests and an Annual Statement of Issues for your information.
Who are the school governors?
The school governing body currently consists of the following:
- Parent governors
- Staff governors (including the head teacher)
- Co-opted governors
In addition, the governing body must elect a chair and vice chair. You can contact the Chair of Governors by email at governors@haydn.nottingham.sch.uk or through the school office.
What do they do?
The role of the governing body is to take a largely strategic role in the running of the school. This includes:
- Setting up a strategic framework for the school and helping to decide the school's strategy for improvement;
- Setting its aims, objectives and priorities.
- Agreeing policies and targets for achieving the objectives;
- Monitoring and reviewing aims, objectives and whether the policies, targets and priorities are being achieved;
- Acting as a critical friend by asking questions and push for improvements as well as promoting the interests of the school and its pupils;
- Ensure accountability by discussing and refining proposals while respecting the professional roles of the Head Teacher and other staff. In its turn the governing body answers for its actions to parents and the wider local community for the school's overall performance.
The governing body is not responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school. This is the responsibility of the Head Teacher.

Governor Diversity Statement
The Governing Body of Haydn Primary School represents a diverse mix of committed individuals who support inclusion, diversity and equality. We are a mixed gender board, with a varying age range and varying ethnic backgrounds. The majority of our board members live locally to the school, increasing local knowledge, and many are also parents of children of school age bringing relevant experience and understanding to the role. The majority of our board members entered higher education and were educated in state education.
We are aware of the diversity of Haydn Primary School’s population and community and consider this in the recruitment of new governors to our board.
Each member of our board brings their unique expertise, background and experience to the role, striving to relate to and empathise with all members of the Haydn community.

Meet the Governors
Governor Profiles
Helen Yates – Chair of Governors
I joined the Governing Board in 2019 as a Parent-Governor and in October 2022 was given the opportunity to become the Chair of Haydn’s Governing Board. I was a Secondary School English teacher in a previous life so am very keen on Literacy. I now work as a manager for the Young Carers Service in Derbyshire, giving me a rounded view of Children and Family services, well-being and mental health. I love to be busy and get involved, which is very helpful in the role of Chair.
Andrea Snelling – Vice Chair of Governors
I have one child at Haydn and am a volunteer reader. As a parent governor and a local resident, I value the opportunity to support the development of the school and its role within our community. I have previously worked in higher education researching past climate change and currently co-run a community shop promoting sustainability. I have a keen interest in developing links with the local community and in supporting sustainability in education.
Elton D'Agostino
I'm originally from Brazil and have lived in Sherwood since 2013. I'm passionate about helping my local community and specially supporting the UK school system. I have previously being a Governor at Bilborough College from 2013 to 2017 being my last post chair of the Employment and Finance Committee (EP&F). I hope to put my financial experience to good use as a governor at Haydn Primary School.
Manisha Amera Yasin
I have lived in Sherwood for 31 years during which time I have raised a family in this wonderful community. I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2003 and now run a private Occupational Therapy service for children who may be struggling socially, emotionally or physically. My aim is to support them to have more independence and joy in their day-to-day life.
For me, the concept of 'giving back' was very appealing. Therefore, when the vacancy of a governor was advertised, I felt compelled to apply and was successfully nominated. I have now been a part of the governing body for 10 years.
All 4 of my children have attended Haydn Primary School and 2 of them are now at secondary/college. Attending the school gave them a great foundation in being able to confidently take the next steps within their educational journey.
I see my role of Governor as being a critical and supportive friend to the school and I look forward to seeing Haydn go from strength to strength.
Mat Hanson
I am a director of an international business with strategic, financial and staff management responsibilities. As a local resident, born and bred in Nottingham, and with two children at Haydn, I am really pleased to have the opportunity to use my experience to support the school and the wider local community through being a School Governor.
Mohammed Yusuf
I am a lawyer for the Ministry of Justice, where part of my role is to act as a legal advisor to lay justices in areas of criminal, civil and family law. I have also worked in the private sector in project management roles where risk assessment was paramount. I am a recent resident to Sherwood and am keen to serve as a governor at Haydn Primary by having my experience and education serve the community I live in.
Francesca Chauhan
I feel honoured to volunteer as a governor and support the school and local community. As a HR professional, with over 15 years’ experience, I am passionate about learning and development. I believe education and continued learning is essential and hope that my HR experience will offer a different perspective to help support the school. I have worked in both public and private sector businesses and supported a wide spectrum of HR fields including employee relations, recruitment, learning and development, organisational strategy, employee engagement and wellbeing. As a parent who has made the decision to take a career break to focus on my children, I am excited to support the Sherwood community and volunteer my knowledge and skills.
Andrea O’Grady
I am a new governor and a reasonably new Haydn parent too. I have 2 children, one at Haydn and a 1 year old. When I am not parenting or carrying a child of my own around, I work in a school as a safeguarding lead and SENCO. My teaching background is in EYFS and I like to think of myself as being friendly, so come and talk to me about your favourite dinosaur or what you’re having for dinner!
Ros Harris
My first contact with Haydn Primary was when my daughter started at the nursery in 2002. Since then all three of my daughters have gone through the school and I have become a teacher here. I have worked in F2, Year 1, Year 2 and I am currently teaching in Year 5.
Prior to teaching I had many different roles including working as an Office Manager, an Export Manager, a Sales Executive, a Customer Sales Team Manager, a French teacher and a Childminder.
I first joined the Governing body as a parent governor in 2005 later becoming Vice Chair and Chair of Governors. I stopped being a governor when I trained as a teacher six years ago but I am loving being involved again, this time as a Staff Governor.
Lucy Wareham
I have two children, one who has now left Haydn and one who is a current pupil, and I live locally. My experience of Haydn as a parent has always been very positive and I am grateful for the opportunity to now be able to support the school’s leadership team as a Parent Governor. I am interested in making school a positive and empowering experience for all children and strengthening links with the local community. I am a Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University and non-practising Solicitor (I spent 10 years in Private Practice as a Commercial Property Solicitor) and I am hopeful that my legal knowledge and experience in both teaching and learning and pastoral care will be of benefit to Haydn.
Michael Bold
I am a father to two amazing, though very different, children that are currently at Haydn. I have been really impressed with how Haydn School has supported them, especially with reading. My sister, mum and grandmother are/were all teachers and I have seen first-hand how tough it can be. I also know how rewarding it is. It is a real privilege to be able to support the school and its wonderful staff.
I have lived in Sherwood since 2012 and love the sense of community. You might see me at the local ParkRun if you also want to escape your kids on a Saturday morning! I am an engineer by training and I am a stronger believer in promoting STEM subjects in schools, especially to girls who are underrepresented in the area. I am a manager now within the water industry used to setting team strategy along with managing people and budgets.
