NEWSLETTER 18TH OCTOBER 2024
Dear families, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday. We are coming to the end of a very busy and productive half-term. The children are now very well settled into their new year groups and are clearly demonstrating, as well as talking, about the importance of the characteristics of the Haydn 5Rs – Ready, Responsible, Resilient, Resourceful and Reflective.
Visitors in school have commented on the exceptional behaviour of the children as well as the delightful manners that they display. We are all very proud of them.
We look forward to hearing all about the children’s experiences over the next two weeks with their families and know that they will be rested and ready for a new half term in school. Warm wishes.
BRING A BULB SESSION – PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS
Ms Paulson and the Eco Team would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to all of the children and families who came and supported our Bring a Bulb session this Tuesday. We are working hard together to make Haydn a green space for wildlife and we look forward to watching our bulbs bloom and grow in the springtime. Long term, we would like to see different plants growing on the school grounds every month of the year so that there is always food for our pollinators. Watch this space!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
October has been Black History Month and it has served as a powerful means of amplifying the voices and stories of Black people, challenging stereotypes and creating a more inclusive and equal society. These values are of utmost importance here at Haydn and over the last two weeks children have been finding out about the untold stories, the unsung heroes and the everyday individuals who have made a positive and lasting impact on our communities and the wider world. A little snapshot: Year 6 have been studying Lillian Bader and John Alcindor, both unsung heroes from the World Wars. The children have written some amazing biographies and learned some fascinating facts.
CAREERS FAIR
Haydn held a Careers Fair today for our Y4, Y5 and Y6 children. We were very fortunate to have a group of parents who were happy to come into school and share with the children their jobs and careers. The children thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the wide range of expertise our parents possess from author to engineer! They were truly inspired and we encourage them all to be aspirational! Thank you to all our lovely parents who came in to support.
A MESSAGE FROM MRS GREENWOOD
Does anyone have any offcuts of wood for our woodwork area in the Forest Garden? Soft wood works the best as the children are able to hammer nails into the wood easily. Also, we would be grateful for any dry firewood for our campfires. If you have either of these things, please bring them to the school office. Many thanks.
