Royal Shakespeare Company Associate School
We are very proud at Haydn Primary School to be an RSC Associate School. This involves a close working partnership with the RSC, Nottingham Theatre Royal and Nottingham Playhouse. Of course this is a huge privilege, but it is also a commitment from Haydn staff to bringing Shakespeare’s plays to life in the 21st Century.
There are an abundance of benefits to being an Associate RSC school and here are some of them:
- We learn about a different Shakespeare play every year in Y5 and this includes a residential at Stratford-upon-Avon where the children take part in a workshop run by the RSC and visit the Swan Theatre to see performance. The children go on to create their own musical performance of the play being studied - this year Romeo and Juliet - using the original language of Shakespeare.
- A group of children go to the Play Making Festival in Stratford each summer and perform with other schools.
- Children become trained Shakespeare ambassadors.
- Our teachers have specialist training in drama techniques by the RSC.
- We use rehearsal room drama techniques in lessons.
- We use Shakespeare inspired language in our writing.
- We work with specialists in drama, music and art,
- We go to the theatre to shows and plays,
- The Nottingham Playhouse perform a Shakespeare production in school each year for our KS2 children.
- We have backstage tours and heritage talks at the theatre.
