Our Year Curriculum Overview
Fitness Challenge
As part of our PSHE topic, we set ourselves fitness challenges to attempt. The children loved pushing themselves and trying out different challenges where they had to improve!
Cloth, Thread, Paint!
We have loved creating some landscapes on fabric and adding details on top by sewing in coloured thread. We looked at work by Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae, textiles artists and used their work as inspiration.
World Book Day!
We had a great World Book Day! We had a stay and read with our parents and carers. We took part in a comic book sketch lesson based on book characters!
Police Visit!
The local Police came in to talk about the protection they use and defense tactics in connection to our Romans topic.
Chinese New Year Paper Cutting!
Year 3 Art
The children have been completing some lovely Roman inspired Coil Pots linked to our Romans topic. They have been creating some sketchbook work around some textile artists called Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae and will be creating some beautiful art work on fabric and will incorporate sewing on top!
Creating Dream Gardens
The children worked together t create accessible gardens for people with different disabilities as part of their PSHE learning.
Pizza Making!
The children made the most delicious pizzas in their food project. They made the dough by hand and let it rise, to roll it out and add their toppings!
Stop Frame Animations
The children loved creating their own Christmas Stop Motion videos. They were very funny!
Singing!
Here is a tiny snippet of one of our weekly singing sessions.
Boccia P.E Lesson!
The children absolutely loved playing this game!
Magna Science Centre!
We had a blast on our first trip! We went to Magna Science Centre in Rotherham, it is an old steel works mill. The areas were based on the four elements and the children got to explore these. We took part in a Volcano workshop and also saw a forces show which included lots of cool experiments!
Shadow Puppets!
To end our science topic on Light, Dark and Shadows, the children created their own shadow puppets and created short stories in groups. They had a great time showing these to the rest of the class.
Religious Studies - The Creation of the World
The children enjoyed exploring the Christians view of how God created the world in seven days. They depicted the days through some art work. We also looked at the opposing scientific view of The Big Bang and Darwin's theory of Evolution!
Forest School
During Forest School, the children are encouraged to take part in a range of outdoor activities such as den building, stick whittling, bunting making, clay modelling and digging in the soil to look for creepy crawlies and wiggly worms. They have enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire and reading in the cosy nook.
Charcoal Art Work
The children have been working with charcoal and creating light and dark pictures. They learned about Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is an Italian term which literally means ‘light-dark’. Artists have used it for centuries to help them describe form, and to create atmosphere or mood.
Flotsam Narratives!
The children have completed their first piece of writing based on the book 'Flotsam' by David Weisner. They have created their own story based on a underwater scene from the story!
Angler Fish - Bioluminescent creatures
As part of our light, dark and shadow topic, we have been learning about different bioluminescent thing like deep sea shrimp, ghost mushrooms, jelly fish and many more. The children collated notes and created their own posters about Angler Fish. Their pictures are amazing!
Light, Dark and Shadow Art
Here are some examples of some lovely sketchbook work looking at light, dark and shadow. We created some bioluminescent creatures inspired by artist Marc Allante and practised different shading techniques on observational drawing.
